Wii Offically Getting a Price Drop– Decision for What System to Get Just Got A LOT Harder September 24, 2009

Leaked Best Buy memo (Pic from Engadget)

So first Sony introduced the new PS3 Slim and cut the PS3 price down to $299. Then a couple of days later Microsoft came out and made the long rumored price cut on the Xbox 360 Elite, bringing that also down to $299. Nintendo meanwhile, as we all know, has been a littleĀ too quiet when it came to making a price cut on the Wii. And who could blame them– Wii’s are great and have been selling through the roof since it first came out a couple years back (think about it– remember last year holiday time– know of anywhere you could find a Wii in a store?).

Well, if you’ve been waiting on getting a new video game system to replace that old Xbox or looking to move to the next gen from your PS2, then listen up as the Wii just got to be a whole lot better option. Why? Because starting this Sunday, September 27th, look for the Wii to be priced at the amazing price of $199.99. Yes, $199.99!

That’s the same price as the Xbox 360 Arcade, and should definitely help Nintendo move a lot more Wii’s come holiday time. Of course, now, as mentioned in the title, comes the tougher part if you are looking for a new system– if price is a major factor (and let’s be honest here– $100 between a Wii and PS3 Slim or Xbox 360 Elite is real money– especially when your gonna wanna go get more controllers, accessories and games…).

I personally love my Xbox 360 which I’ve had for about 2 years. Yes, it broke down once with that cursed “red ring of death” (where your Xbox just dies and you need to send back to Microsoft to replace– a process that left me Xbox-less for about 2 months. Though the new Xbox 360’s don’t seem to be getting this problem as much, and mine has been running great since I got it fixed early last year), and playing games like NBA 2k9, Halo, and Madden in HD is amazing, and something you can’t do on a Wii.

The PS3 also though looks great and adds in things like built in WiFi (add on for the 360, though built into the Wii), Blu-Ray, and the free Playstation Network online gaming– while Xbox Live costs $50 a year, though Live does give off a much better experience in my opinion. And then of course you got this low priced Wii– with those great Wiimotes and fun gameplay, as well as a free web browser (like the PS3), WiFi, and free online play.

It’s definitely gonna be interesting, and we wanna know what you think is the best system to buy this year (taking into account that come next year the Xbox 360 will have Project Natal and the PS3 will have 3D and motion controls of it’s own). So….. vote in our cool little poll here and feel free to drop off your questions or thoughts on which system you’ll get/like to get in the comments.

Get the Wii Internet Channel for FREE September 2, 2009

wii internet

Want to be able to view the internet right from your Wii but didn’t wanna have to pay the 500 Wii Points (about $6) to get it? Then boot up that Wii, head to the Wii Shop Channel and go download it now because Nintendo finally wised up and made this FREE for everyone, starting today.

Already bought the Internet Channel for that 500 Wii Points and feeling a little upset? Don’t worry, Nintendo is offering those of you who did a free NES game from the Virtual Console (as long as it’s 500 Wii Points). Oh, and you should also know that this has it’s perks too– Nintendo today also announced that they upgraded the browser (which is powered by Opera– meaning it’s a solid browser) to Adobe Flash 3.1, which means things like watching YouTube should be perfectly ok from your Wii.

I put this today on my own Wii (I didn’t want to spend the money on it, but hey, if it’s free why not), and I gotta say– this is really awesome. It works just like your Firefox/Safari/Chrome/Opera/Internet Explorer/whatever you use to browse the web on your computer, loading sites like ESPN and TeenTechBlog (I heard it’s an awesome site so I had to check it out), and it loaded both those sites perfectly (though I couldn’t play any ESPN Video).

More info on the Wii’s Internet Channel can be found at Nintendo’s site here.

All in all, watch’a waiting for– turn on that Wii and let us know what you think of Nintendo’s Internet Channel. Did I mention it’s FREE?

Yesterday, Microsoft wowed everyone with their E3 conference (I so want that Project Natal!), and today Nintendo had their turn to present some of their upcoming video games and add-ons to their family-friendly systems. Let me just tell you in the outset: this was NOWHERE NEAR as wow-inducing as Microsoft’s stuff, but it still had some rather interesting moments of it’s own. Read on for the full roundup.

The Beatles are coming to Rock Band! March 5, 2009

rock-band-beatles

Very into Rock Band and are looking for some new classic songs to jam to? Well, if that’s the case, then today’s your lucky day: MTV Games, Harmonix (joint Rock Band founders) and Apple Corps LTD (copyright owners of the Beatles music; not the iPod company) announced today a whole new game for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii that features the legendary British rockers.

Arriving 9/9/09, it will be available as a stand-alone game for $60, and for $250, as a limited edition Rock Band set including the whole package– game, guitar, drums, mic– entirely designed to look like the instruments used by the Beatles. You can also get just the guitar for $100.

The game will also have 45 of the Beatles hits from 1962 through 1969 playable, though as of right now, not much is known about whether you can download those songs for play on your Rock Band 1 or 2 as well as if you can play other songs in this special Beatles version. We also know that fortunately, the 3 companies also said that the older Rock Band instruments will be able to work with the new game, so those of you who don’t wanna spend the extra $190 for more plastic instruments can just get the game and be all set ;)

So you pumped for this new game? Will this make you hold off on that Rock Band 2 or Guitar Hero World Tour purchase and wait a few months to get a game based on one of the greatest bands ever? Sound off in the comments.

Ready 2 Rumble Revolution for the Wii

We all know and love the Wii’s motion sensitive controls- you know, the motion sensitive Wiimote and Nunchuck controllers. Well, this new game, Ready 2 Rumble Revolution, looks to take full advantage of those controllers, as it looks like a cooler, funner version of the traditional boxing game found in every Wii Sports game. Save $100 on a PS3 this Weekend at Walmart November 7, 2008

Walmart ad for this weekend sale

Wanted an 80 GB PS3 but the price was keeping you away? Run down to your local Walmart and pick one up this weekend, because although the PS3 won’t receive a price cut this holiday season (Sony already said no to the idea), you can get a $100 gift card when your purchase the 80 GB system for $399 over the weekend.

One major catch you should be aware of: this offer is in-store only (or so we know) and starts on Saturday at 8 am (yup for those of you who really– and we mean really – want this, you’ll need to get up pretty early).

$100 off a HD video game system which doubles as a Blu-Ray player is pretty good deal, but remember: for those who don’t want to give up their weekend to wait in line for this deal, I’m pretty sure there will be many other price cuts for all of the video game systems (including the Xbox 360 and Wii) in the very near future as Black Friday– the major sales day following Thanksgiving– and the holiday season approaches.

What you think- are you going out this weekend to pick up for yourself a PS3, or more interested in going for a Xbox 360 or a Wii? Oh, and feel free to check out the other weekend deals in the ad and let us know if your interested in any of ‘em.
