Posted by Eli Blumenthal in : Apple, Cell Phones, Rumors , add a comment

Unless you’ve been living under a rock the past couple of weeks, you’ve probably heard that Apple has released a new iPhone and that this new iPhone has been having some problems with keeping a signal when you hold it in your left hand. Of course, any new iPhone– and particularly any new iPhone problems– brings out the rumors of Apple finally adding another carrier to their cell phone world, with most of the rumors focusing on a particular carrier that’s red and rhymes with Shmerizon.

Yes, the Verizon iPhone rumors are alive and hotter than ever; with many top, well-respected publications (like the Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg) chiming in by saying that a Verizon iPhone is on the way– and really soon.

So what are these rumors and what do we think of them? Read on for the full scoop.

Reminder: Apple’s WWDC is Tomorrow June 6, 2010

Posted by Eli Blumenthal in : Apple, Rumors , add a comment

Is that new iPhone that we’ve seen so many pix of over the last few weeks finally going to become official tomorrow? Are we finally going to learn when iPhone OS 4 going to drop? Will MobileMe become free for all? Are there going to be the long awaited updated Mac Minis and MacBook Airs? Will Verizon, T-Mobile and/or Sprint be announced as new iPhone and/or iPad carriers, officially ending AT&T’s exclusivity?  The answers to those pressing questions (which are some of the hottest rumors flying around– though again, before we get some hopes up, these are just rumors) and more should all be revealed in a few hours when Apple CEO Steve Jobs takes the stage for Apple’s annual WWDC conference at around 1 PM Eastern time tomorrow (June 7th).

It will no doubt be a big day no matter what Apple announces, so remember to check back here tomorrow where we’ll have all of Apple’s announcements broken down with everything you need to know. In the meantime, what are you thinking/hoping/wishing to see Apple announce tomorrow?

(And in case you were wondering, now would probably be the worst time to go and buy an iPhone 3GS).

Verizon Announces the BlackBerry Bold 9650, Out Now June 4, 2010

Posted by Eli Blumenthal in : Cell Phones , add a comment

Wow, that was quick. Just over 2 weeks after Sprint released their successor to the Tour, Verizon has now come out to do the same. Yup, all you Verizon BlackBerry users can go and pick up this new BB with all it’s WiFi, trackpad, more RAM (which should mean an even faster BB particularly with multiple apps running), and all the other traditional BlackBerry goodness like the great QWERTY keyboard, 3G, and 3.2 megapixel. Like the Sprint version, the Verizon Bold 9650 will also ship with a 2 GB microSD card.

Verizon has also made this their first “GlobalAccess Connect” phone, allowing all you globe-trotters out there to use this as a worldwide GPS (thanks to VZ Navigator, and assuming your going to Canada, Mexico, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Spain, Sweden or the UK). Verizon also enables you to tether your BlackBerry to your laptop when abroad, meaning you can share your phone’s internet with your computer, though it will probably cost you a pretty penny; plans start at an additional $55 for a 5 GB limit when tethering in the US and Canada with an 100 MB limit when tethering abroad…  but at least you have the choice!

The Bold 9650 is out now and you can order it right now on Verizon’s site, or can pick it up next Thursday (June 10th) in Verizon stores for $150 ($50 less than what Sprint charges) with a new 2 year contract and data plan.

Early this morning, Microsoft announced it’s pricing for the KIN phones for teens – $50 for the KIN 1 (Square one in the above shot), and $100 for the KIN 2. Data is $30 a month, for unlimited data. Network is, as previously announced, Verizon, and the KIN requires no special plans to get – just buy it as you would any Verizon phone.

Release date is tomorrow for online orders, with Verizon stores getting them May 13th.

Droid Incredible by HTC Out Now for Verizon– Already Sold Out Online! April 30, 2010

Posted by Eli Blumenthal in : Cell Phones , add a comment

So the latest and arguably greatest Android phone (or perhaps even just the best overall phone) for Verizon, the Droid Incredible by HTC, is finally out. And, while not a huge surprise (yet still very impressive), it’s already sold out online! Now don’t worry if you didn’t already order or pre-order your Incredible, as you can still try your luck at your local Verizon store (and if that doesn’t work out, you can still place your orders online, though new orders aren’t expected to ship until next Tuesday 5/4). Oh, and all Droid Incredible buyers between now (including those who pre-ordered) and May 31st get a free 2 GB microSD card, bringing the built in memory up to around 10 GB (it also has 8 GB built-in).

Now for those that we’re able to get an Incredible, what you think of it (is it Verizon’s best phone yet? Better than an iPhone?), and if you didn’t yet– do you plan to? Lets us know in the comments.

And for all the details on what is the Droid Incredible and why it’s so great, see our previous post here.

Pic and info from Verizon.

Verizon Announces Samsung Reality, Teens Wait Impatiently April 20, 2010

Posted by Zev Rosenbaum in : Cell Phones , 3comments

Boy, if you have Verizon, and you are thinking about getting a new phone, you are going to have plenty of options. Between the Kins, the HTC Droid Incredible, and the possibility of a new iPhone this summer, Verizon is certainly pandering to the teenage community. For those who want a more simple yet solid phone (that don’t necessarily need constant internet or apps), the Samsung Reality is certainly going to be a big contender and with specs like these, you can’t disagree:

The Samsung Reality is set to come out on April 22nd for a not-so-expensive $79.99 after a $50 mail in rebate and a 2 year new customer contract. However, as with many new phones coming out with Verizon, in order to get the most out of the Samsung Reality, you will have to purchase a 25 MB data plan for $9.99 (yes, on these new “feature phones”– or phones that don’t run a smartphone OS like BlackBerry, Android or iPhone– Verizon has begun adding in the requirement of a data plan in order to get the subsidized price).

So, are you going to go with the Reality? Or will you wait for the Droid Incredible or Kin to come out? Sound off in the comments.

Verizon Announces the Droid Incredible By HTC April 15, 2010

Posted by Eli Blumenthal in : Cell Phones , 2comments

The first thing that came to mind when I saw this: wow.  If you’re on Verizon — between this and the KINs — you’ve got some really tough choices ahead. This phone truly is crazy, a seeming mix of the Nexus One and HTC Desire, taking pieces from both and making one sick phone. The Droid Incredible really looks to bring “the next chapter in the Droid saga” (Verizon’s words, though I completely agree). Just look at these specs:

So when can we expect this beast to arrive? Thankfully, Verizon plans to release this soon– in 2 weeks, on April 29th.

You can pre-order the Droid Incredible starting next Monday, April 19th. The Droid Incredible will cost $199.99 on new 2 year contract with data plans ($29.99 a month). So what will you choose this or the KIN?
