Sprint Announces their Second Android Phone– the Samsung Moment October 9, 2009

The Samsung Moment for Sprint
In a couple of days, Sprint will be releasing it’s first-ever Google Android-powered phone: the awesome HTC Hero. Now if you were interested in getting an Android powered Sprint phone, but were more into something with a real full QWERTY keyboard, like with the T-Mobile G1 or Motorola Cliq, listen up– Sprint is prepping something for you too.
Meet the Samsung Moment (also known to some as the InstinctQ)– a pretty solid looking phone, that also is nicely spec’d. Let’s take a look at what we got here shall we?
- 3.2 inch AMOLED touchscreen with slide out full QWERTY keyboard and trackpad– Think of this as kinda like the G1 or Cliq in terms of design, just with a better screen than both (the screen, just for comparision’s sake, is like that on AT&T’s Samsung Impression– which is awesome). There also is a trackpad, like on the new BlackBerry 8520, which should help with navigating the device.
- 800 MHZ processor– This thing should run REALLY fast (the iPhone 3GS by comparison clocks in at 600 MHZ, and the Cliq and G1 are both around 528 MHZ– so your getting A LOT more power here)!
- Sprint 3G
- WiFi and GPS
- Google Android OS with Google– The “with Google” part means that unfortunately don’t expect a TouchWiz or any other type of customization like MOTOBLUR on the Cliq or HTC Sense on the Hero. You only get the standalone Android here. That’s not all bad though, as you still get the….
- Android Market and other Google apps like Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, etc.– You’ll get access to the thousands of apps already in the Android Market, and Sprint even has their own Android versions of Sprint TV, Sprint Navigation, and NFL and NASCAR apps already pre-installed onto the device.
- 3.2 Megapixel camera with Flash, video camera and auto-focus
- Support for Sprint Any Mobile, Anytime– This is Sprint’s new calling feature added to the Everything plan, and for $69.99 a month you get the usual unlimited data and text, but now the ability to call anyone in the country– no matter if their on AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, whatever– without the need to worry about minutes. It’s now also got unlimited calling!
You can check the full press release here, and you can expect in Sprint stores November 1st for the same price of the Hero– $179.99 with a 2 year contract and $100 mail in rebate– which requires a Sprint Everything plan. Hit the more link for a quick YouTube of the phone in action, and click here to sign up for Sprint to keep you up to date (though don’t worry, we got you covered right here).

This has been a pretty big week for cell phones, and AT&T in particular. Announcements about 6 new phones, including the HTC Touch Pro2, Touch Diamond2 and new feature phones, were announced in varying detail this week by AT&T, and boy, some of these look really good, and I mean really good.

We’ve been expecting this to come official for a while now (since a little over 2 months ago when we first about it), and today finally made it official by announcing and releasing the Samsung Rogue– or as we like to call it, the Glyde 2. But that’s not all Verizon and Samsung had in store for today– they also released a new cheap, slide out full keyboard phone called the Samsung Intensity. Want to know all about these 2 new Verizon phones? Read on.
New Samsung Dash Info Leaks Out– Hello Instinct HD! August 27, 2009
Posted by Eli Blumenthal in : Cell Phones , 3commentsA pic of the Samsung Instinct HD courtesy of Best Buy (you can even see they have cases ready for it. Click on the pic to see the ad on Best Buy’s site)
Remember a few months back we wrote a post on 6 upcoming Sprint phones, and mentioned a sick successor to the Instinct called the Samsung Dash? A lot of you were, and still are, very interested in the fate of that phone (like we know a lot of people were into the recently released Samsung Reclaim– we’re cool like that), and today we got for you, more or less, a confirmation that the phone is indeed coming to Sprint AND is coming in the not too distant future.
You see, Best Buy posted their “Weekly Ad” on their site this week (I guess like they usually do), and just so happened to be a little too trigger happy with news on this new Instinct, the Samsung Instinct HD, mentioning it in their September Mobile Phone Buyer’s Guide. As you can tell– this obviously is a little bit of a problem as Sprint hasn’t yet come out and announced the new Instinct (though we’re guessing now that their gonna be making an announcement really soon), and Best Buy clearly looks to have spilled the beans on what looks to be an awesome new Sprint phone. But hey, their loss our gain– we now got some solid info on this bad boy.
Here’s what Best Buy confirmed:
- 3.2 inch screen (which we guess will look amazing)
- 5 megapixel camera with flash and video recording with TV Out ability– so you can hook this up to your HDTV and share your pix and videos with friends and family in HD
- WiFi– it’s about time the Instinct got this
- Visual Voicemail, GPS, instant access to sites like YouTube, Facebook, and MySpace
- a new IM app and an added tab on the bottom called “My Stuff” with a little briefcase over it– we concluded that from the clear picture of the Instinct HD but no info is given on these aspects
Sadly, we also don’t have a price or release date either (Best Buy only lists it as “Coming Soon”), but this ad’s offers only run till September 26th, so all the official info from Sprint should be out any minute now– which we’ll of course keep you updated on.

Samsung Reclaim– closed and in “Ocean Blue”
Remember that Samsung Chianti we wrote about a while ago in our upcoming Sprint phones post? You know, basically a Sprint version of AT&T’s Samsung Propel? Well, this sweet upcoming texting phone has finally become official today– with final specs, a new name (come on, Chianti couldn’t have been the final name), and even a release date. We know a lot of you are interested in this phone so go on; all the info is after the more link.
AT&T and T-Mobile Release Details on 2 New Phones for Each July 17, 2009

Today, like all days in the world of tech, was very busy, with 2 new phones coming out soon for both AT&T (a cheap model and an amazing camera phone) and T-Mobile (an updated touchscreen and a great texting phone). So what what kind of phones are we talking about here and are they worth checking out? All the answers are a More link away.
Is this the Samsung Glyde 2? July 6, 2009
Posted by Eli Blumenthal in : Cell Phones, Rumors , add a commentA rumored pic of the Samsung Glyde 2 (pic from HowardForums, click on pic for bigger version), next to it is a pic of AT&T’s already released Samsung Impression for comparison purposes (you gotta admit, they look a lot like)
We all know the first Samsung Glyde for Verizon had its ups and downs (looked really cool, but originally the touchscreen stunk, and was so bad that they had to actually recall all the phones to fix it….), but now pix are popping up of a new Samsung Glyde 2, and boy does this look to not just fix everything possibly wrong in the first one, but actually do even more!
Right now all we got are a couple of pix (like the one you see above), but the phone itself to me looks like a sleeker, Verizon version of AT&T’s very good Samsung Impression (which I have actually seen in person and played with for a couple of minutes– the screen and keyboard on it are AMAZING!), and that is definitely a very good thing.
As I said, we don’t know much yet specs wise but we can safely assume this will be touchscreen (my guess on screen size is somewhere near the Impression’s 3 inches– though that is just my guess, and seeing as this is a rumor, isn’t confirmed anywhere), possibly an AMOLED screen like the Impression (again, just a guess, but could very well be as Samsung has been very big on this tech lately. Oh, and in simple terms– this means an AMAZING screen that is up there with the iPhone and Pre’s), Verizon 3G and Samsung’s TouchWiz interface (both of which we can tell from the pix. And the TouchWiz interface is basically a bunch of cool widgets you can place on your homescreen, it’s definitely nice to have and sure beats Verizon’s standard UI on the homescreen). There also looks to be some sensors like a light sensor by the Verizon logo, which also is a nice touch (though what exactly are the sensors we don’t yet know), and the keyboard looks to be easier to use than the very hard keyed keyboard on the first Glyde.
We’ll of course keep you updated on this, but even if the specs are close to what we guessing, then this is looking like another winner for you Verizon users out there.
And we now gotta ask, if your looking for a new phone for Verizon over the next couple of months, what ya gonna get– this (basing on the rumored specs and assuming it gets released soon– like in the next couple of months), the BlackBerry Tour, the enV Touch or the enV3? Or are you gonna look for something different entirely? We’re all ears so sound off in the comments.
