The Motorola Debut i856

Looking for a solid phone with a great plan that doesn’t make you sign your wireless soul away for 2 years? If so, then listen up as we got something you’ll definitely want to check out (trust me, you do). It’s called the Motorola Debut i856 for Boost Mobile (the carrier with the TV ads going “where you at?”), and for the past few weeks we have been putting it through its paces, and we came away pretty impressed with both the phone and Boost Mobile as a carrier. The Zune HD

For the last week or so we were able to spend some good ‘ol time with Microsoft’s sweet new Zune HD. It really is a slick device– OLED multi-touch 3.3 inch touchscreen with amazing display (thanks to NVIDIA Tegra graphics), sleek design, thin aluminum casing, built in WiFi, and of course, the HD features of HD radio and the ability to play your videos in HD with the optional HD playback kit.

So if your looking for a new device and have to choose between say, this and the iPod touch 3rd gen, which should you go with? The answer, my friends, is after the break.

gi joe xbox 360 cover

Recently we had the chance to review G.I Joe the Rise of Cobra video game for Xbox 360. Our thoughts? In short, it’s a solid game if you’re a fan of the series in general, but its definitely not the Call of Duty or Halo experience, if that’s what you’re looking for. Read on for the full review.

Beejive IM – Review July 27, 2009

Beejive IM – the multitasking majesty

Alright. For a long time now, there’s been one king of IM apps on my iTouch, and thats AIM. But now send out the heralds: the new king has arisen! Beejive IM! There are a few things that set aside Beejive from AIM, including Facebook’s built in chat, Google Talk’s Safari web app, and a host of others. The main difference is that Beejive not only boasts push notification, which keeps you logged onto an account (AIM also now does this), but it allows you to go and log into all your accounts from all your places at once (something AIM only let’s you do with only your screenname). And if you’re on an iPhone, this morphs into being socially connected anytime, anywhere, to everyone. Pretty sweet in other words, especially for us teens.

Speaking of different accounts, that’s where Beejive really delivers, supporting the incredible list below: AIM/Mobile Me, Google Talk, ICQ, Jabber, MSN/Windows Live, MySpace IM, Yahoo Messenger, and even Facebook Chat. And thats the main reason why it takes the IM spot on my iPod– the amount of compatibility makes it incredibly useful. Once you add your accounts to Beejive you can access them through a buddy list, like in AIM, as well as view open chats and set favorites. Also, the option to view individual buddy lists for each account is also there, which is useful if you only need to find some friends on AOL, but want to stay logged in on your other accounts.

However, there is a catch, likely to deter some readers. Beejive, unlike AIM– which is either free with ads or $2.99 for a no ad version– is a paid app costing $10. However, for those of you who always want to be in the loop on all your accounts, I feel that it’s a fair price to pay for it. Overall though, I really like Beejive, even despite the price tag, and rate it a 5/5.

Hedgehog Launch 2 – Review June 22, 2009

Posted by Chaim Gartenberg in : Computers, First Look/Reviews, Video Games , 1 comment so far

Picture 2Hedgehog Launch. Sonic sure doesn’t fly like this.

Last year, around this time, I blogged about a little flash game called Hedgehog Launch. The premise of the game was simple. You have a hedgehog, and a large slingshot, and your goal was to use the slingshot to launch the hedgehog into space. Along the way, you fly into coins, which give you money, and bounce off floating platforms, which propelled you higher and gave you even more money. You then used this money to buy more stuff such as… . Overall, it was an awesome game.

But that was then. This is now, and now is Hedgehog Launch 2. According to the developer, jmtb02 (one of my favorite flash game makers), the game is 6 times as big in terms of height to reach, which is without question awesome. Also, there are more upgrades to buy, and some new gameplay elements as well, such as magnets to collect more coins, a “fuel sucker”– which gives you extra fuel when you hit a platform, and “comrades”, or extra hedgehogs to add weight so you fall faster through the earth, giving you more speed for your attempt to reach the moon and beyond.

The game is just as fun as the first one — the hedgehog looks awesome, the music excellent, managing to convey the sheer joy of  hedgehog in flight, and the game, is just plain fun.

Check it out here, and let us know what you think of the new game in the comments.

Review: Nero BackItUp and Burn June 15, 2009

Posted by Eli Blumenthal in : Computers, First Look/Reviews , add a comment

Nero BackItUp

Ever have your PC break down on you and lose your files, music, movies, pix etc.? Yeah, we thought some of you out there also had that problem, and for that reason we strongly recommend buying an external hard drive (you can find them pretty much anywhere– Staples, Wal Mart, Amazon, Best Buy…) and constantly running backups to make sure you never lose your precious data or have to ever go through the struggle of trying to find and replace lost data (trust me, computers nowa-days are very much not indestructible, and I’m talkin from first hand experience as my PC that I bought just a couple of years ago recently had the hard drive go. Lemme tell you– it’s no fun).

Now getting the hard drive is just one step in backing up, the other part of it is finding good software to go along with it. Today we got a review for you of a product we’ve been testing out the last couple weeks, Nero’s BackItUp and Burn.  This software (available for Windows XP and Vista– sorry Mac users), not only give you a great suite of controls to make backing up your files easy, but also comes with Nero Express (which let’s you burn files to CD’s, DVD’s and Blu-Ray disks) and Nero Rescue Agent which let’s you get files off a damaged disk (say a scratched CD which I’m sure a lot of people have) and helps you restore files.

So how did this software preform, and what are our thoughts on it? Read on for the answer.
