Nexus One Coming To AT&T and Sprint? February 3, 2010
Posted by Zev Rosenbaum in : Cell Phones , 3comments
The Nexus One Google smartphone (for more info see here) got a lot of buzz when it was released last month for T-Mobile. Now, you can also buy an unlocked Nexus One, but you only get EDGE or 2.5G, not 3G when using it on say, AT&T instead of T-Mobile. However, CNET and other sites are now reporting that Nexus Ones have been ordered with 3G for WCDMA bands that will allow for 3G on AT&T (which has 3G in many more places than T-Mobile).
Not only that, but CNET also reports that Google has said that there will be versions of the Nexus One coming out in the spring for Verizon (which Google and Verizon mentioned at the Nexus One launch) and possibly Sprint as well.
So are you pumped for the Nexus One coming to a network near you? Or are you satisfied with your current phone? Let us know in the comments.

T-Mobile myTouch 3G (shown in white, Merlot (red) and black).
Earlier this week T-Mobile finally let out of the bag something we wrote about a while ago (think January!)– confirming the next version of the first Google Android phone– the G1– with the announcement of the myTouch 3G (some of you may know of this as the G2 or HTC Magic. HTC, who also made the G1, also make this phone). This is actually a much cooler phone that what it looked like in its apparently early stages when we first wrote about it. So buckle up T-Mobile users, and hit the more link, because a lot of awesomeness is about to come your way.
Verizon and Sprint Announce the BlackBerry Tour June 17, 2009
Posted by Eli Blumenthal in : Cell Phones , 1 comment so farVerizon’s and Sprint’s respective BlackBerry Tours’. (Note: click on either the Verizon or Sprint BlackBerry to go to their respective “Coming Soon” pages).
We know a lot of you are waiting for the next big BlackBerry to come to Sprint and Verizon, and that you’ve been waiting months for the BlackBerry Tour (aka, BlackBerry Niagara or 9630) to be that device. Well, then get ready, because your wait for both the Verizon AND Sprint versions are on the way and are coming this summer! How we know? Verizon, and then shortly followed by Sprint, each launched coming soon pages on their respective sites the other night (Verizon’s is here, Sprint’s is here, or just click on either the Verizon or Sprint Tour picture above)! This is great news for everyone waiting for this, but we gotta say, the real winners right now look to be Sprint users, as it was said that Verizon was gonna get it months before Sprint, and as we can see now, Sprint’s won’t actually be that far behind (Verizon is said to get it in mid-July, or around July 15th-17th, with Sprint saying they’ll get it later this summer– so yes, technically Sprint could get it in September and Verizon get it in July, which still to carriers is summer, but the fact that both announcements are so close together we’d think otherwise. And even so, it’s much better than the usual wait periods)!
Oh, and for Sprint users the good news doesn’t end there: the price on the Tour is said to be at the not so terrible price of $199.99 on a 2 year contract and after $150 worth of mail-in and instant rebates (the price is something we assume Verizon will mimic as well, though they haven’t said anything yet about it). Oh, and Verizon’s Buy One BlackBerry Get One Free BlackBerry deal is said to be ending later this month or before the Tour drops, so there goes any hopes of getting another Tour free.
We’ve been covering this device in both our upcoming Verizon and upcoming Sprint phone posts, so you can learn more there.
In terms of concrete features, BlackBerry just released a press release officially confirming pretty much all the stuff we’ve been hearing: 3G, a SIM card slot for use overseas (with Europe 3G support), 3.2 megapixel camera with flash and video, high res 2.44 inch screen (at a resolution of 480×360 for those in need of every little detail. In simpler words– an awesome screen), GPS, BlackBerry App World, etc. Full release with all the details can be found at BlackBerry’s site here.
We’ll keep you posted on this, but enjoy your good news of the day!

Palm Pre– getting 4G?
I was at Best Buy the other day, and Iwas talking with a Best Buy Mobile (Best Buy’s cell phone department) guy. This news is really big if true, so big that we’re devoting a seperate post to it instead of putting it in the Upcoming Sprint phones post we wrote! Read on for all the details! (more…)

First Look: iTunes Store on iPhone over 3G January 7, 2009
Posted by Eli Blumenthal in : CES and Macworld, First Look/Reviews , add a commentWell, as Chaim mentioned in his MacWorld 09 roundup, Apple today unleashed the restrictions on the iPhone’s wireless iTunes Music Store, letting you finally download songs over 3G! So me being crazy to try this out, took out my iPhone 3G and put this to the test.
I gotta say it works as advertised; I was able to download a 4 minute song in about 1 minute, and my 3G wasn’t even going at its normal speeds! (I think this has something to do with AT&T’s data/internet network going down earlier yesterday morning on the east coast, and it hasn’t fully recovered as of this writing). Anyways, the quality of the songs are the exact same as the ones on your computer’s iTunes, and the mobile iTunes Store even started selling the new DRM free tracks (see Chaim’s post) – which you can also download today.
All the songs you downloaded get transferred to your regular iTunes on the computer the next time you sync and go to File–> Transfer Purchases from “____’s iPhone”, so don’t worry about losing your newly bought tracks
Another pretty important thing worth mentioning here is that the pricing on the iPhone’s iTunes store remains the same. Unlike other carriers’ music downloading services (we’re looking at you Verizon, and AT&T with your non-iPhone phones’ $1.99 pricing per song), you’re not paying more than the standard .99 cents to download a song.
Oh, and for all you original iPhone owners: don’t worry, this works over EDGE as well, but I would recommend sticking to Wi-Fi for your downloads, as you may not have enough time to sit and wait for your song to download (downloading over EDGE is that slow).

(The song, by the way, is “If Today Was Your Last Day” by Nickelback, and the download is paused so I could take the pic- not because of 3G problems
)
I still was hoping (wishing really) that Apple did more for the iPhone today (please, all I want is: a landscape keyboard like in Safari for texting, syncing with more than one computers like a regular iPod, a lil video recording, and some picture messaging. Honestly Apple, is that so much to ask?). But all in all, the “new” iTunes Store over 3G is great, and gives the iPhone yet another edge over the competition as both a music player and phone.
What you think of the new iTunes Store- both the iPhone’s new ability to download over 3G and the new DRM free songs? How the iPhone 3G’s wireless iTunes Store working for you? Let us know in the comments.
