Motorola V9x for AT&T Out October 12, 2008
Posted by Eli Blumenthal in : Cell Phones , 2commentsThe new AT&T V9x
Wanted to get that Motorola V9x from AT&T that we wrote about the other day (check it out here)? Motorola is now taking orders for your copy of this sick (yes it looks that good) phone available for $299.99 without a 2 year contract (Yes, that you will need to do that separately from AT&T– who hasn’t launched it yet themselves– but that isn’t so bad; you can get yourself a nice back up phone for free just by re-signing
) Click the More link for all the details and a recap of the features that make this phone so sick. (more…)
Get PAID for buying a Verizon phone October 12, 2008
Posted by Eli Blumenthal in : Cell Phones , add a commentWant to make an quick $25, and are also looking for a new cell phone? Then run down to your local Verizon store and get yourself a Palm Centro and you’ll get both! This is a weird, yet awesome deal as you get the money and a pretty good phone with a new 2 year contract. The Centro has some good features including:
- Tiny design- Not RAZR like thin, but is small and should fit into all pockets
- Great Keyboard- Palm makes the some of best keyboards (albeit this ones a little small, not something to get for those with big fingers) so this phone is especially good for texters
- 2.2 inch TOUCHSCREEN!- Palm only makes touchscreen phones, so this is obviously no exception.
- Verizon 3G
- 1.3 Megapixel Camera with Video Recording
- Mp3 Player
- Micro-SD card slot- Allows you to add up to 4 GB of memory
You won’t get the $25 right when you buy the phone from the Verizon store — the money is coming from Palm and not Verizon — but you can expect reimbursement within 6 weeks of your purchase (perfect for some holiday shopping
). Oh, and hurry because this deal runs out on October 31.
This isn’t an LG Dare by any stretch of the imagination, but hey we’re in tough times economically, and if the carriers wanna start paying us for some okay phones- I’m all for it
What you think- is paying you $25 enough to make you want to buy this phone, or is it worth paying Verizon to get a better phone like a Dare? Any Centro owners wanna sound off if this is a good deal, or does Palm and Verizon need to pay you more money to take this off their hands? Let us know in the comments.

Xbox 360 Dashboard Update Arrives November 19 October 11, 2008
Posted by Eli Blumenthal in : Video Games , 12commentsNew Xbox 360 Dashboard
New Halo 3 info not enough for you and your Xbox? Well this should be enough. The Xbox website says that on November 19, the new dashboard update will be available. A recap on some of the things the update brings:
- Slick 3D “flip” menu interface
- Load games off of your hard drives instead of the disc (this is faster and brings no more worries of scratched discs!)
- Avatars (like Mii’s on the Wii) for Xbox Live Arcade games
This is a nice little update and will be both mandatory and free (you will need to download it, but you will also need to have at least 256 MB free for it to download) when it comes out next month.
We also have news for those perspective buyers out there who didn’t buy an Xbox 360 last week when Dell was giving those $50 off coupons (we wrote about it here). From now till who knows when, all versions of Xbox 360 (yes all: Arcade, Pro and Elite) will be bundled with full games in the box…free! The Pro and Elite with the Kung Fu Panda and Lego Indiana Jones and the Arcade (already including the regular 5 Xbox Live Arcade games like Pac-Man and Uno!) with a full copy of Sega Superstar Tennis. There are no changes in the overall price of the system, so think of this as an early holiday present to you from Microsoft

Any of this info enough to make you wanna save up some $$$ and buy an Xbox 360, or are you gonna wait a little longer till the holiday season comes closer, looking for a better deal? Let us know in the comments.

Halo 3: Recon October 10, 2008
Posted by Chaim Gartenberg in : Video Games , add a commentApparently, Bungie (ya know, the Halo creators), announced today their new, game, which they had previously teased about a few weeks ago. The project, now known as Halo 3: Recon, has you playing the role of a UNSC Drop Trooper Recon Marine (I haven’t really been following the whole story element of the last three games– I just point and shoot at aliens), which, in regular-people terms, means you play the role of a space paratrooper who runs around and shoots stuff– as opposed to Halo 3 where you’re running around as Master Chief and, well, also shooting stuff.
All kidding aside, the game looks awesome. Interestingly enough, its being published not as the new campaign expansion to the current Halo 3, which is expected to come in early January and bring loads of stuff to existing Halo 3 owners, but as its own standalone game, including regular Halo 3 multiplayer modes and features, in addition to the new campaign mode. So its more of a second Halo 3 game then a Halo 3 expansion or Halo 4. The bad news? Fall 2009, folks. Its gonna be a long year…….
What this means for you: Well duh. New Halo. All the “Halo-ey” goodness we’ve come to love in the previous games. just, um, newer.
No Instinct App Store Yet October 10, 2008
Posted by Eli Blumenthal in : Cell Phones , 7commentsWe know a lot of you out there are really excited about the new Instinct App Store, and all the apps that could come with it. Unfortunately, today is October 10 and we got no new word for you. The latest news from the Instinct Developer page is that they’re still reviewing Apps to find out who wins the contest (for all the details on this Instinct contest, we wrote about it here).
We did though see on the Gizmodo that a new Pandora app — enabling you to listen to streamed music on your phone (already available for free on the iPhone) — is out for the Instinct (though it will cost you $3 a month to use).
Maybe Sprint is starting to slowly release Apps, one by one. I really hope that isn’t the case, and they will just release an App Store with everything there, but hey, better something then nothing.
We’ll keep you updated with anything new coming out on this. Until then, feel free to post any thoughts or wishes you have for new Apps as well as what you think of the Pandora app if you got it, in the comments.
UPDATE (2/23): Sprint appears to have canceled the entire contest, we have this written up here.
New Macbooks Coming Next Week! October 9, 2008
Posted by Eli Blumenthal in : Computers , add a commentThe Macbook event invite
Apple just announced today that next week on October 14, they will be releasing new Macbooks! What these Macbooks are exactly remains anyone’s guess, but the strongest of rumors claims that all the Mac notebooks (including the regular Macbook) will be made out of a single piece of aluminum. Some weaker rumors say everything from new trackpads (maybe glass ones with a multi-touch screen underneath, basically an iPhone in a Macbook), to a Mac tablet (see more info on these and other Macbook rumors here).
While we unfortunately won’t be there in person
, we will, of course, give you all the info once it comes out next week. In the meantime, hold off on that new laptop purchase and feel free to give us your guess/wish on what you think will happen next week at this Apple event in the comments.

Turns out all you Verizon users will have more than just some new Motorola phones to chose from this holiday season.
