Verizon's LG Dare– iPhone's Best Competitor? June 26, 2008

LG Dare
Now that AT&T might be getting another all-touchscreen phone, we thought it would be nice to mention some more info on Verizon’s latest touchscreen phone, the LG Dare. There’s a lot on it, but I think its worth a look. Click the More link if you’re convinced.

Price and Realease:
The Dare is expected to go on sale online at Verizon’s online store today for a sweet price– $200 ($250 with a $50 mail in rebate). It will be in the “old fashioned” physical Verizon stores on July 3rd.

- 3 inch touchscreen with “Vibe-touch” feedback–touch something on screen and feel a vibration resembling pushing physical buttons on regular phones (also available on the Vu and Instinct, but not either of the iPhones–the regular nor the 3G)
- 3.2 megapixel camera with flash and auto-focus and video capture (cell phones are now becoming better and better cameras, and soon just having one device may be enough)
- 3.5 mm headphone jack– you can use regular headphones with it
- micro-sd card slot –room for holding up to 8 GB
- Auto-Adjusting Screen (Light sensor, Proximity Sensor, and Accelerometer)– alot of mumbo jumbo, but basically, like the iPhone, the Dare modifies the screen according to the direction–horizontal or vertical– you are holding it (accelerometer) and also adjusts the screen’s lighting (the other two sensors) based on the relevant conditions– distance from eyes, location condition etc.
- Verizon 3G with V-Cast Store and V-Cast Navigator (GPS)
- Intuitive Finger Scrolling for Music–similar to Cover Flow for the iPhone and iPod Touch
- Full Web Browser
- Embedded Video and Picture Editing
- Texting includes a touchscreen classic keyboard, Predictive text (like on most regular phones) and also handwriting recognition if you want to write in the words (another thing iPhone is missing, though you can write in Chinese–for those who have an inexplicable reason to do so)
- Drawing pad with colors, pen widths, eraser for scribbling and picture “editing”
- Compact dimensions similar to the iPhone
WOW!!!! That is a lot of stuff. On paper, the LG Dare seems better than the mighty iPhone!

the dare seems way cooler than the i-phone and plus it’s newer. the camera specs and features seem way better than anyother phone’s with the slow-mo playback for the camcorder and the 3.2 MP for the photos. i will definitely be getting the dare…LG ROCKS!
