WWDC – App Store/2.0 Software June 13, 2008
Posted by Chaim Gartenberg in : Cell Phones, Video Games , trackbackAnother thing that happened at Apple’s WWDC (something other than iPhone 3G) was Apple announcing some more information about the App Store and the 2.0 software, an update that will be made available for for the iPhone and the iPod Touch. This update allows iPhone and iPod Touch users to download offical (not jailbroken) applications like games and programs to their respective device. The projected launch date is early July–which I’m guessing will be July 11- the same day the iPhone 3G goes on sale. Click the more link for some of the things included in the update.
Here is a list of some of the more complete Apps already shown/ known, as well as some updates in the 2.0 update:
- Games with graphics similar to Nintendo DS (developed by individuals as well as video game company’s like EA, Sega and Gameloft)

Sega’s Super Monkey Ball on iPhone
- Instant Messaging (AOL is already developing an AIM version for the phone)

AIM on iPhone
- Ebay
- More support for businesses
- Scientific calculator (not sure who will use, but good to have especially for school work)
- Support for Apple’s online service, MobileMe (formerly known as .Mac- again not sure of who would use in a teen perspective considering it has a yearly subscription of $99)
- The ability to read email attachments of most files, like Word, Powerpoint, Excel, or iWork stuff
The update will be $10 for iPod Touch users and free for iPhones. The new 3G iPhones will presumably have it preinstalled.
